Vusumuzi Ngonidzashe Hove
I am Vusumuzi Ngonidzashe Hove (Vusa Hove), a medicinal chemistry researcher and pharmaceutical scientist specializing in clinical oncology. My research focuses on evaluating the therapeutic efficacy, ADME properties, and toxicity of pharmacologic agents through pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) modeling. I am particularly interested in uncovering clinically relevant drug–drug interactions (DDIs) to help inform future regulatory and translational studies on drug disposition. A complementary dimension of my scientific work involves exploring oxime ligands as potential Fe(III) MRI contrast agents and for Fe(III)/Fe(II) sensing, bridging coordination chemistry with biomedical imaging applications. Beyond the lab, I am an experienced Organic and General Chemistry Tutor with 900+ hours of personalized instruction through Wyzant and other online platforms. I support undergraduates and pre-medical students by simplifying organic reaction mechanisms, spectroscopic interpretation (¹H/¹³C NMR, IR, MS), and multi-step synthesis. My teaching approach emphasizes visual learning, structured problem-solving, and strategic exam preparation, helping students build lasting confidence and conceptual clarity. Before transitioning fully into the sciences, I competed as a Division I student-athlete at the University at Buffalo. I rose to become the #1 singles player, a Top-125 NCAA Division I competitor, an ITA All-Academic Team honoree, and UB’s all-time leader in combined wins. I was also honored as the first Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Year (2013) in the program’s history and was later inducted into the Buffalo Tennis Hall of Fame (2019). I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and two M.S. degrees in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University at Buffalo, where I was awarded the Professor Emeritus Dr. Thomas J. Bardos Scholarship by the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
